Highlander Last One Standing Sat 23rd July
Blair Atholl castle estate near Pitlochry in Scotland was the venue for the Highlander last one standing/backyard ultra on Saturday. This was the 4th and final LOS event of the home international series with Team Ireland, Team England and Team Scotland all hoping to win the overall series. Starting at midday on Saturday the competitors had to complete a 4.16 mile loop (with about 140 metres of ascent/descent) every hour to remain in the race. Conditions were not ideal with heavy rain and thunderstorms especially during Saturday night creating large puddles and turning some of the grassy parts of the route into something more at home in a cross country race ! As time wore on and athletes started to drop out the team competition was becoming very close but at the 24hr/100 mile mark Team Ireland still had 5 athletes competing, at which point 4 Scottish and 3 English athletes remained. In the end Team Ireland ran out clear series winners with Team Scotland 23 loops behind in second place. Harrier Greg McClure was a member of Team Ireland; Greg ran 26 loops in 26 hours for a personal total of 108.33 miles.

We Run Wild NI Midnight Marathon/Half marathon Sat 23rd July
Starting and finishing in Carrickfergus at midnight on Saturday night, this event offered races over both the half and full marathon distance. Both courses were predominantly on trails, lanes, forest paths and rural roads and gave runners spectacular night views of Belfast Lough. Navigating by means of a ‘roadbook’ and no other signage added to the fun of the challenge. Sandy Carr completed the half marathon in 2:42:52.
Tri Tyrone 70.3 Triathlon Sat 23rd July
This race incorporated the Triathlon Ireland National Championships. Harrier Sam Carr turned in a commendable performance to finish runner up in his category.
