A really busy week for the Harriers, from very fast 5ks to community-led festival runs, there was definitely something for everyone.

.Wed 3rd Aug 2022: Crawfordsburn 5k Trail Race.

Organised by North Down Athletic Club, this undulating trail is a mixture of gravel, tarmac and grass paths that weaves around the scenic country park and along the coastal path. Two Harriers took part.

Fri 5th Aug 2022: Carlingford 5k

Organised by Glenmore AC this fast race takes part in the very scenic village of Carlingford, Co Louth.

Eight Harriers completed the course, all with impressive times.

Fri 5th Aug 2022: Mallusk 5 mile

An ever-popular race organised by Mallusk Harriers, this course incorporates the much-talked-about hill up the Sealstown road lasting a mile and a half. After that, it’s all downhill towards the legendary hospitality at the end.

Fifteen Harriers joined the field of 187 runners with Ryan Moore finishing in 5th place winning his age category (M35).

Fri 5th Aug 2022: Co Down 5k

Billed as one of the fastest 5k races in Northern Ireland, this circuit comprises six and a half loops around the Market St. area of Downpatrick.

Twelve Harriers made the journey to the heart of Co Down where participants were spread over three races depending on the speed of the runner.

Peter McGarry took 3rd position overall with an impressive time of 15:08.

Sat 6th Aug 2022: Run the Trails at Mount Stewart 10k

Helen Weir was the sole Harriers representative at the scenic Mount Stewart. Helen chose the 10k race and was rewarded with a podium place – second lady finisher. Well done Helen.

Sat 6th Aug 2022: Seven Sevens

The Seven Sevens is one of the most gruelling events in race calendar. The seven sevens refer to the seven tallest peaks in the Mournes, all of which are over 700m.

Martsje Hell and Simon Reeve rose to the challenge on behalf of the Harriers and performed very well with Martsje being the third lady home.

Sun 7th Aug 2022: Féile an Phobail 10k

Ran as part of the ever-popular Féile an Phobail, this 10k race attracted over 450 participants making it the biggest yet.

Fifteen Harriers made the journey to the west of the city to put themselves through the agony that is Divis Drive, followed by a stint in the upper part of the Falls Park.

As usual, everyone enjoyed taking part in this community-led event.

Gladys Ganiel did the ladies proud by claiming second female home. Well done Gladys.

Sun 7th Aug 2022: Colour Run

As part the North Belfast Big Weekend, the Ashton Centre teamed up with North Belfast Harriers to organise a colour run. The  event took place at Girdwood Community Hub.

The distance? Don’t know. The winners? No idea. Was it fun? Most definitely judging by the photos supplied by Margaret Stephens / Paul Carlin.

Sat 6th Aug 2022: PARKRUNS

A total of 63 North Belfast Harriers took part in 12 parkruns this week. A great turnout!

Well done to Nat GLENN and Janice PLUMB for being the first finisher and first lady finisher respectively at Larne parkrun. April CLARKE and Carol CLARKE were 2nd and 3rd ladies home making it a hat trick for the Harriers at Larne. Well done to all.

Congratulations to Thomas COY, Dara CASSIDY and Charlie McLARNON who achieved PBs at the Waterworks.

Well done to everybody who took park in this week’s parkruns and a big thank you to the army of volunteers.
