NBH Race Report 31 Oct – 06 Nov 2022


The famous New York marathon, cross country, trail and road were all on the agendas of NBH athletes this week.


born2run minnowburn 5k/10k (sat 05 nov)

Starting at the Mary Peters track the challenging route covers track, forest trail, country road, and takes in the National Trust property at Minnowburn and back along the banks of the Lagan. The 463 finishers in the 10k included 4 harriers.

Novice XC (sat 05 nov)

Stranorlar in Co. Donegal was the venue on Saturday for the NI novice cross country championship which saw the athletes race over a 4 lap course for a total distance of 6000m. The club had 4 runners who all put in good performances to finish well up the field of 113 finishers. Their results were:

Abbott Dash 5k (sat 05 nov)

The curtain raiser to the New York marathon, this race is also organised by the New York Road Runners. It starts close to the UN headquarters and takes runners through midtown to the marathon finish line in Central Park. Joe Gallagher warmed up for the marathon with a 21:52 clocking securing a commendable 5th place amongst the 209 runners in his age category.

Ballynahinch WMRC/atlas running Run to remember (sun 06 nov)

This event attracted over 200 runners on Sunday morning who took on a 5.3k route on the country roads around Ballynahinch. Five NBH athletes competed and their results were:

New york marathon

The first Sunday in November is the traditional date for the New York marathon which takes runners through all 5 boroughs of New York. This year 3 harriers made the trip to the Big Apple to take part and were rewarded with unseasonably warm conditions which were possibly not ideal for marathon running. Nevertheless fine performances were achieved with all 3 finishing in the top third of the bumper field of nearly 48,000 finishers. The full results were:

Saturday was the 12th anniversary of the first ever parkrun in Ireland at Waterworks. There was celebratory cake for those that braved the rather soggy conditions to participate. Meanwhile, at Birkenhead, Andrew Milligan was running the fastest parkrun in the UK on Saturday in a super time of 14:55. The full results for NBH runners at the various parkruns on Saturday were:
